Five Things Friday 4/10

1) Sparkle Athletic Virtual Run

Today and tomorrow 6 of my favorite ladies will be running a combined 200+ miles across Southern California raising money and awareness for Rett Syndrome.  Each individual mile dedicated to a different girl who is battling with the disease.  To aid in their fundraising they are hosting a virtual run and spots are still available.  You get a pretty BA medal and a race bib to wear during your miles.  Go register and take the time this weekend to run for those who can’t.  Be sure to follow #TeamSparkle all weekend to keep up with the Ultra Ragnar Team!

You can register here!

2) runDisney Princess Enchanted 10k Award

Last weekend I received a package from runDisney that I’ve been waiting for just over a month.  Age group awards from Princess Half Weekend were starting to pop up across the internet and I knew mine wasn’t far away! Boys aren’t eligible for awards for the half marathon, only the 10k.  My 44:29 finish was good enough for 3rd place in my age group!

3) Garmin Marathon in the Land of Oz

My 21st marathon is next weekend in Olathe, KS!  This Wizard of Oz themed event is looking like a great time and I’m ready to go! I’ll be driving up with 2 running friends on Thursday and Friday and picking up another at the Kansas City airport along the way.  Anyone else running?

4) First St. Jude Goal Met!

I’m am thrilled to announce that I have met my first fundraising goal for the year for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Thanks to the generosity of my friends and family we surpassed the $2,100 mark for Spring fundraising well before the Tinkerbell Half weekend, which was my goal.  I can never express how great it is that year after year we put together such a great donation to benefit St. Jude and the work that happens at that facility.   This brings my fundraising total to $11,459.65 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital since April 2012!  (An impressive average of $318/month over 36 months!) Be on the look out for my next fundraiser starting in May as I gear up for the fall and the St. Jude Memphis Marathon.

In the meantime I encourage you to donate to help Brooklyn reach her goal for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Nashville Country Music Half Marathon. She is less than $200 away from reaching her goal!

5) Baseball is back!

Finally! My favorite time of year is here and baseball season is back in full swing.  I must admit that I have been concerned about the current status of the Braves, especially after Sunday night saw my favorite player traded to the Padres just hours before the first pitch of the season.  Regardless of how the year plays out, I love getting to sit down each night and watch some quality action on a diamond.  I’ll be going to my first MLB game of the year next weekend in Kansas City to see the Royals take on the Athletics in a rematch of last season’s AL Wild Card Game.
