Five Things Friday

1. Boston Marathon

This past Monday was the Boston Marathon and like so many other runners around the globe I had the race streaming on my computer and watched as the world’s elite athletes ran the famed course from Hopkinton to Boston.  It was an emotional race to watch.  I am quite the fan boy of Shalane Flanagan and love every chance I get to see her run. As Meb crossed the finish line bringing an American name to the top of finisher’s podium it created a rejuvenation of spirit.  A friend of mine had the opportunity to meet Meb in 2012 and had him sign an issue of Runner’s World for me, he wrote “Joe, Run to Win -Meb” It seems like a simple philosophy.  Every time you lace up, run to win.

2. Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Another runDisney registration opened this week and as expected brought along a new frenzy of people trying to squeeze into races and events before they reached capacity.  The WDW 5k, 10k, and Dopey Challenge all sold out within hours of registration opening.  As of this morning the Goofy Race and Half Challenge is just over 50% full and the WDW Marathon is at 70%.  I’ll be running the Dopey Challenge in January competing in all 4 race distances.

3. Southern Spring

It is hard to describe the mounds of great things that come with spring time south of the Mason-Dixon Line.  I was very excited to tear through my first plate of crawfish of the season this past weekend.

4. Baseball Tonight

There are few things I enjoy more than sitting in a bleacher seat with a hamburger in my hand and nachos on my lap while watching a baseball game.  Tonight I’m going to my first New Orleans Zephyrs game.  The Zephyrs are the Triple-A affiliate team for the Miami Marlins, and while I posses a displeasure for the Marlins I am excited to visit a new MiLB park and watch some live ball! They Zephyrs are playing the Omaha Storm Chasers, Triple A affiliate for the Kansas City Royals.

I’m hosting a give away from Sparkle Athletic for a Sparkle Skirt and Visor.  A $10 donation to St. Jude gains entry. Spots are limited and you don’t want to miss out!  You can donate to St. Jude by following this link or by clicking the Donate Now box in the top left of the page. do good stuff.
