Mississippi Blues Marathon Medal Revealed

The Mississippi Blues Marathon weekend is one of my favorite running events of the year.  The Blues is held in my home state and was my first full marathon that I ran back in January of 2012, and I ran the half marathon in both 2013 & 2014.  Although I am not running the event this year due to it being held the same weekend as the runDisney Walt Disney World Marathon, I have still been following closely as the race has been making several announcements lately.  Firstly, this year’s Blues Marathon Weekend has been named the 2015 Reunion event for the Marathon Maniacs and the Half Fanatics.  Years of great medals and great swag have helped to bring attention to the race from these two groups that I am a part of.  Look for a sea of yellow and red at the start line in January.  In 2014 the race tried something different in the race packets.  Instead of the standard race shirt they included a MS Blues Marathon fleece quarter zip pullover.  With the idea in mind that you don’t wear the race shirt everyday, but this jacket is an everyday type of item.  I loved mine! I wore it everywhere during the colder months of the spring.

This year they have updated the idea again and are including a running vest in each packet.  It looks to be great quality and I wouldn’t expect it to be anything short of practical for the runner with no pockets.

Over the weekend the race revealed the designs for the finisher medals. The Blues has been known for creating some really great (and rather large medals) in the past and this year’s is sure not to disappoint. Check it out! The blue parts will be made of glass.

It looks very similar to the 2013 medal, but the glass is a nice touch for some contrast.  I’m excited to see these medals in January, and still a little upset I won’t be getting one for myself. To get in on the Blues action you can visit their newly designed website and register here.  If you really love running you can also double the Blues Marathon with the First Light Marathon the next day in Mobile, AL.
