Mississippi currently sits third in the nation for highest number of obese adults. Over the last couple of years the number of marquee marathon and half marathon events has risen. Another one is coming this December and I’m excited about it.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon will take place on December 11 and run the stretch along the beachfront of the Mississippi Sound. The best part of this inaugural event is that race organizers are some of the same crew that pieced together the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge. That makes me excited to see what can come of this event. Louisiana is a fantastic event. (And one that I have run 3 times!) It features well organized races, beautiful finisher medals, and a killer after party. These are all things that I want to see take place in my hometown along the MS Gulf Coast.
This will be a point to point course stretching along the beach front. There will be a 5k and kids run on Saturday & a Half Marathon/Marathon on Sunday. In typical Louisiana Marathon fashion running on both days will earn you a seafood tray for completing the Double Down Challenge. This is similar to the Louisiana Marathon Deja Vu Challenge.
I love seeing new races come to my local area and hope this race delivers all that I hope it will. Registration opens today! So be sure to get in while you can, registration prices will increase as race day gets closer. You can find more information on their official race website, and be sure to like their Facebook page too! #SoakUpTheRun
