It’s that time of year again. Registration opened earlier this week for the NYC Marathon lottery and hundreds of thousands people flocked to their computers to cast throw their name in the hat.
This will be my 3rd time putting my name into the lottery. It proved unsuccessful on my first two endeavors, but I’m hoping for a lucky break in 2017. The lottery period is open from January 17-February 17 and the drawing of names will take place on March 2.
There are several ways to earn your spot in the World’s Largest Marathon and the lottery is one that afffects the most people. Other options are meeting a time qualifying standard or by completing the NYRR 9+1 program meaning that as a club member you participate in 9 events and have volunteered for 1 event within the last year. Not being in the vicinity of NYC (or being a sub 3 speedster) the lottery is the least hassle option available. The big change this year is that the lottery is now free to enter! After a lawsuit to the NYRR last year that pesky $10 lottery charge is gone. (Granted the race entry is more expensive, $295 eeeeek)
Running NYC in 2015 was an incredible experience & im hopeful to get back to the big Apple this year.
