New York, New York!

It is with great excitement that I am able to announce that on November 1, 2015, I will be running the New York City Marathon!

After a lucky break in my fall work schedule NYC Marathon weekend suddenly and unexpectedly became open.  The lottery was already over by a few weeks and I knew the only way I would be able to run was to join a charity team.  One of my Jonnie’s GoodGuys team mates has run the NYC Marathon the last 2 years as a member of Team Ritter, this year I will be joining him as he runs through the 5 boroughs.

Team Ritter is the athletic fundraising team for the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health.  You remember the actor/comedian John Ritter from his role, among with many other things, on the television show Three’s Company, you also remember the wide spread heartache following his unexpected death in 2003 after he was misdiagnosed with a heart attack.  In reality he suffered from an aortic dissection and passed away during a surgical attempt to correct the problem.

As a result of his passing and hopes to encourage aortic research and education Ritter’s family founded the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health in October 2003 just weeks after his death.  Their mission is dedicated to improving the identification of individuals at risk for aortic dissections and the treatment of thoracic aortic disease through medical research. The foundation also seeks to provide accurate information to the general public about the disease and its risk factors, along with support to individuals who have thoracic aortic disease or have lost a loved one to the disease.  Finally, the foundation is dedicated to raising awareness of thoracic aortic disease, including risk factors, proper medical and surgical management, and recognition of symptoms of an acute aortic dissection.

Jonnie’s GoodGuys is a group of friends that starting running together after losing a friend to Marfan Syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the body’s connective tissue and leads to under development of body organs, including the heart.  Heart health has always been the main focus of the GoodGuys for the past 10 years and will continue to be so in the future.  I am excited to be rejoining my JGG team mates and being a part of Team Ritter in NYC for my first World Major Marathon! You can help me reach my fundraising total by donating at the link below.  Also the image in the top left of this blog will be direct link to my fundraising page until November.
