Enchanted 10k Race Recap

Saturday morning came with the normal 2am wake up call that comes with every runDisney event. I slipped out of the hotel at 3:15 and made the quick drive to the Epcot Wonder lot. The staging areas (and race course for that matter) were the same as the January races. Tianna and Snow White were out by the DJ stage taking pictures with runners before the race started. I took a quick picture then dropped my bag at year check and made my way to the corrals.

I wanted to be up front in the corral because I needed to get through the course as quick as I could and get back to the hotel. I stood on the second line of people as the Fairy Godmother counted down the race and the fireworks went off kicking things off.
The course was the same as the WDW 10k and the character stops were in the same places. I stopped for a few pictures where I could get in and out without having to stand in a line. Just before mile 2 there were 2 winter themed Tinkers out, this may have been my favorite photo opportunity of the weekend.
After running the first 5k on the highways outside of Epcot we ran through the backstage area and entered the World Showcase near the Mexico Pavilion and around the showcase to the Boardwalk area. As I entered the boardwalk I realized that in an incredibly female weighted race field I was running in a pack of 4 males, not a woman to be found. The 4 of us ran across the decks of the boardwalk and back out to the Living Seas area in Epcot. We started to spread out just a little and after a final turn around Spaceship Earth it was a sprint to the finish line!
I ran the race hard and came across the finish line 30 seconds away from Personal Record I set back in January on the same course. The good news is that the number of runners in this race were much lower than in January this means that I moved up a lot in the standings finishing 37th overall and 3rd in my age group! Males are only eligible for awards during the 10k, not the half, and those awards are mailed out 2-3 weeks after the race. I’m excited to get to see what comes in the mail next month!
Finish: 44:29
Overall – 37 / 10989
 Male – 20 / 1249
Division – 3 / 147
