So back at the beginning of December I shared a Facebook post from the St. George Marathon. They were offering an entry to the Marathon taking place on October 1st. Who would have thought that 3 weeks later I would wake up on Christmas morning to a notification that I was tagged in a post saying that I won! Now I get to plan a trip to St. George, Utah. I’ve heard some great things from friends about the race and how conveniently close to Las Vegas it’s located.
Entry to the St. George Marathon is a highly sought after item. The entry cap is 7800 runners. The race operates under a lottery system for participants. There are various other options to gain admission as well. If you haven’t gotten in to the race through the lottery the 2 prior years you automatically are granted entry on your third attempt. (A policy that the NYC Marathon used to have also, but unfortunately discontinued after the cancelled marathon in 2012) They also have a program for local area runners and bibs available through various charity groups.
The St. George Marathon is included in Runner’s World 10 Most Scenic and Fastest Marathons and Top 20 Marathons in the USA. It begins in the majestic Pine Valley mountains and descends nearly 2600 feet through scenic southwest Utah, to the beautiful Worthern Park. Runner`s World has also listed SGM as the fastest fall marathon. The race has also has some great words posted on BibRave.
If you want to join in on a what I’ve been told is a beautiful Utah run be sure to enter the lottery when it opens on April 1, 2016. And be sure to like their Facebook page, maybe you can win an entry too!
