When I was in college, once a month I would leave town after class on Friday, drive 9 hours to Indianapolis, rehearse with a drum corps for 36 hours, drive 9 hours back, and be at class Monday morning. It would drain me mentally and physically.
The runDisney Wine & Dine Half Marathon is wrapped up and the work week is back in full force. After a midnight drive to Birmingham and 3 hours of sleep before a 6:30 am Saturday morning flight to Orlando we were able to squeeze a Power Ranger convention, race expo, shopping at Downtown Disney, dinner with friends, the W&D Half Marathon, post race party in Epcot, 3 more hours of sleep, and a drive back to the airport all into one slam packed day. The first stop for the day was the Ranger Stop convention being held at the Holiday Inn across from Universal Studios. This was my first comic con style event and I had a blast for the very short time I was able to hang around. I met a few childhood heroes and was quick to head right back out to get to the race expo.
The expo was great! We stopped and visited with the wonderful team of girl at Sparkle Athletic and talked fundraising with the group at the St. Jude tent. Overall, it seemed smaller than rD events I’ve attended before, but it felt like there was more product based booths and less “Come run this other race too!” type of booths. The big news coming from the expo was the unveiling of the new medal designs for the Star Wars Half Marathon events. They look great and I’m super jealous of everyone who will have them hanging on their medal displays. (more on those later)
After the expo we had to run (well, you know, drive) to Downtown Disney to find charms from the new Disney Pandora collection for my mom. After wandering through the piles of construction we could the Marketplace and the Pandora collection, then headed to the Art of Animation to meet for dinner with Jillian from TrD. I love walking around the Animation Resort, the photo opportunities are almost endless there.
Race time was coming soon… And so was the rain. Te temperature was dropping and the water was coming. Within the first few miles of the race everything & everyone was soaked. However, it takes a lot more than water to spoil a night in Disney World. A full race recap will be coming later this week after Marathonfoto finishes posting all their pictures. We celebrated post race around Epcot with a ride on Spaceship Earth and fish & chips in the UK, complete with a post race photo opportunity with Mary Poppins to close out the night.
